The Netherlands is an incredible travel playground for us. There are so many places to explore, all within 1-2 hours driving range.

We’ve been testing out accommodations all across the Netherlands in the last 5 years. But finding Landgoed De Holtweijde made us come back for more. If fact we liked it so much last summer, that we returned in winter too! Which never happened before. 🙂

So, if you’re looking for a relaxation oasis in the middle of nature, this is it. Here’s what to do on a weekend getaway to Landgoed De Holtweijde.

Location

Lattrop is a small Dutch village in the east part of the country, only a stone’s throw away from the German border. Often overlooked by tourists, i think it’s one of the most charming and picturesque destinations in the Netherlands.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Lattrop is surrounded by lush forests and peaceful countryside.

Landgoed De Holtweijde is a beautiful estate, converted in 1973 into a stylish inn, then a hotel.

Premises

The accommodation itself offers a variety of luxurious suites intended as a business or leisure retreat. Everything is impeccably maintained and looks pristine.

We loved getting up in the morning and having unlimited view of the forest through the glass wall. Or enjoying the first coffee on the balcony, overlooking green fields.

Food

It was all good already. Until we went to dinner at the on-premises restaurant t’Spieck, listed as Michelin Bib Gourmand. Then it became amazing.

The whole decor, personnel and attention to details were outstanding. Combining live piano music with a 3-course French menu made with seasonal products transformed our evening into a memorable experience.

I must say, having 2 tennis courts to play all day for free is what made me book this. The indoor pool is pretty nice too. I guess we have to go again to try everything else. 🙂

What to visit nearby

The center of Ootmarsum is just 10 minutes by car. We had a full day exploring the Open Air Museum and discovering the artsy city center.

Best time to visit

Each season has its advantages, so there is no bad time to go.

Summer is ideal for outdoor activities.

Winter has its charm as well, as the entire estate becomes a Christmas wonderland.
